Energy Storage Association (ESA) is the national trade association dedicated to energy storage, working toward a more resilient, efficient, sustainable and affordable electricity grid – as is uniquely enabled by energy storage. With more than 160 members, ESA represents a diverse group of companies, including independent power producers, electric utilities, energy service companies, financiers, insurers, law firms, installers, manufacturers, component suppliers and integrators involved in deploying energy storage systems around the globe.

About the Position

Reporting to the Vice President, External Relations, the Strategic Marketing and Digital Communications Director will assist in developing and implementing strategic messaging campaigns in support of Energy Storage Association (ESA) conferences, membership, exhibition and sponsorship offerings, publications, and other initiatives. The individual will serve as the day-to-day lead in advancing the Association’s mission of accelerating the widespread use of competitive and reliable energy storage systems in North America. Working closely with the Association’s Public Relations team and Programs & Education Director, the individual will be responsible for serving as the ESA brand manager, as well as managing the Association’s engagement across all social media, email, and website platforms.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Marketing, Communications & Brand Management (30%)

  • Develop and execute communications strategy that supports multiple audiences and conveys ESA’s mission and strategic initiatives
  • Develop and execute targeted and broad marketing campaigns for ESA events and educational programs
  • Serve as ESA’s brand manager, ensuring consistency of message, look and feel of all communications products
  • Edit and maintain existing marketing materials, including letterhead, presentation/report templates, emails, etc.
  • Oversee development of ESA collateral, with a focus on design and printing management

Social Media (20%)

  • Manage all ESA social media platforms, including editorial calendar, daily content and advertising
  • Work with the ESA Policy and Public Relations team to create engaging social media content
  • Monitor social media platforms for ESA and energy storage mentions and engagement opportunities
  • Answer and respond to questions and engagements from social media audiences
  • Support ESA initiatives and events on social media, including live-tweeting
  • Research ongoing updates to social media platforms and emerging trends

Website Management (20%)

  • Serve as primary staff lead for maintaining primary website and all related events subsites
  • Work with ESA staff to develop, edit, and approve content for all web platforms

Email Marketing (20%)

  • Manage editorial calendars for email marketing
  • Manage staff content submission for ESA newsletters, ensuring robust and timely content
  • Format and send all marketing emails, including monthly ESA newsletters and ad hoc email notifications
  • Assist in refinement and growth of email lists to ensure accuracy of data and appropriate usage

Other – Reporting, Training & Special Projects (10%)

  • Manage vendors including email marketing platform, web support contractors, printer(s), etc. and budgets
  • Prepare regular social media, marketing and web traffic metrics and reports
  • Provide staff training on digital media platforms
  • Execute special projects as required, including marketing support for strategic initiatives and events
  • Perform administrative tasks as requested

Education and/or Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or similar field from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive marketing leadership experience in tradeshows, advertising, sponsorships and/or association marketing
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of and skills in social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Graphic design experience, especially using Adobe Creative Cloud, and including the creation of marketing materials
  • Proficiency in email marketing and marketing automation technology
  • Basic HTML understanding and website management experience (Drupal and/or WordPress)
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills; knowledge of AP writing style
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Photography and video editing experience (Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, Final Cut, etc.)
